The Television Broadcasts Limited, commonly known as TVB, was founded as the first wireless commercial television station in Hong Kong.  Commenced broadcasting in 1967, it is one of the largest commercial Chinese programme producers in the world.  TVB's headquarters, Hong Kong TVB City, is Asia's largest commercial television production centre.  To cope with the keen competition with other production centres in the region, TVB decides to expand the scale of the current TVB and refurbish the major 2 studios.  A Grand Production Theatre and a new Studio 1 & Studio 2 is proposed.

To signify the company’s creativity, bold gesture and outreaching strategy in the new era, the new theatre should be modern and innovative, rather than sticking to a traditional theatre layout, which is dull, introverted and boring.  The design inverts the traditional theatre layout in-side-out, exposing the true nature, form & function of a contemperary production hub.
